Shropshire for families with children

Shropshire is a dream destination for families with children. We have wide open spaces free from traffic where you can let them roam to their heart’s content. You don’t need to spend much money to make memories, either. Forests and hills, castles and country parks: all provide safe, imagination-fuelling adventures for the explorers in your life. Shropshire’s rich history means you can easily learn a lot without feeling like your day was ‘educational’ – if you see what we’re saying. We have many wonderful museums, including ten in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge, where young people can absorb Britain’s social and industrial history in a way that is effortlessly hands-on. Blists Hill, for example, is an open-air Victorian town museum where you can step inside shops and cottages to see what life was like in around 1900. Enjoy real fish & chips; maybe in summer ride the steam-powered carousel in the old-fashioned funfair. Elsewhere we have Acton Scott Historic Working Farm where traditional nineteenth-century farm life unfolds before your eyes.  And whether you’ve been riding a bike or taking a hike, Shropshire always has a child-friendly pub or cosy tea room to refresh tired people, big and small, at the end of an exhilarating day. Bring your kids, big and small, to Shropshire – and find the very best days out for all your family.

Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
