Nature in Shropshire: get up close to beauty

Shropshire’s varied and unspoilt surroundings make it one of the most biodiverse counties in the British Isles. Woodland, farmland, fields, grass, scrubland, moors, meres and mosses allow an abundance of birds, insects and small mammals to thrive here. Huge conservation efforts from people who love nature mean rare species are making a return to Shropshire. Special nature projects are helping to sustain colonies of rare hazel dormouse, and the shy pine marten has been recently spotted here. All around Shropshire you’ll find places for birdwatching, for admiring flowers and trees. Shropshire is a place for quiet appreciation of the nature around us. You can see animals up close at several Shropshire attractions, including adventure farms aimed at children and smaller conservation centres. Go gently in Shropshire and be rewarded by nature: are you ready to visit us?

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
